Malia Obama Safe After Earthquake in Mexico

Malia Obama is okay after experiencing an earthquake in Oaxaca, Mexico Tuesday. The 13-year-old daughter of President Barack and First Lady Michelle Obama was south of the border on a school trip when a 7.6 magnitude earthquake hit near Acapulco.

In a rare White House mention of the first daughters, First Lady Michelle Obama's office told CBS News that her eldest "is safe and was never in danger."

Republican candidate Rick Santorum has criticized the Obamas for allowing Maila (whose younger sister is Sasha, 10) to go to Mexico after the State Department issue a travel warning for the country.

'Don't set the example by sending your kids down there," sniped Santorum, who lost a crucial Illinois primary against Mitt Romney Tuesday night.
