Little is known about Ridley Scott's "Prometheus," -- and the director would like to keep it that way -- but thankfully, the new full-length trailer debuted at WonderCon in California on Saturday, giving fans a first look at the film's most crucial storylines.
"Prometheus" follows the crew of the spaceship Prometheus in the year 2085, as they explore an advanced alien civilization in search of the origins of humanity. Scott originally conceived the idea for "Prometheus" as a prequel to his 1979 science fiction horror film classic "Alien." However, with some input from writer Damon Lindelof, the film developed into a separate story that precedes the events of "Alien," but which is not directly connected to the film.
Although, this more in-depth "Prometheus" trailer does reveal a few more links to the "Alien" franchise. After the spaceship Prometheus reaches the mysterious planet, there is a quick glimpse of a space jockey -- a creature from the "Alien" universe -- in its pilot seat.
Scott announced at WonderCon that he is hoping to make a "Prometheus" sequel, reports EW. “If we’re lucky, there will be a second part of this [film],” he said. “The film does leave you with some nice big open questions.”
"Prometheus," starring Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Guy Pearce, Logan Marshall-Green and Michael Fassbender, hits theaters on June 8.
